Continuing the Vega tradition of fine banjos that some players refer to as "playable sculpture", the peghead of the Dragon Star is exquisitely inlayed in mother-of-pearl and abalone shell with a many scaled, fire breathing dragon whose tail and claws are entwined around  a bold Vega Star.  At the base of the scooped ebony fingerboard is a delicate princess colorfully inlayed with a hand-engraved detailing.

Vega Little Wonder

The new Vega Little Wonder is a remarkable achievement in blending a versatile, bright, responsive banjo with a very modest price. The sound of this banjo is ideal for old time music, both finger style and clawhammer, folk, classical, civil war era, ragtime and for classic turn of the century parlor music. (Nylon or gut string banjoists will find the response and character of this banjo appropriate for their styles) It is also a perfect choice for any player who wants a powerful, versatile banjo that is not too heavy. (Try this one with a few bluegrass licks and you'll see what we mean by versatile). The Little Wonder has a deep warm brown stained, three-ply rock maple rim and a rock maple neck. The satin finished neck is fitted with an ebony fingerboard, inlaid with mother-of-pearl dots. Many of the older Vega models in this range were made with softer wood fingerboards and multiple, veneer strip laminated rims for reasons of economy. We only use premium three-ply rock maple rims and ebony fingerboards for this outstanding banjo. We think you'll agree the tone and playability are worth the effort. The rim has 24 brackets mounted on traditional bracket shoes. The pot has one lower coordinator rod that easily and accurately adjusts the banjo's "action" or playability. The peghead of the rock maple neck is overlaid with black and there is a white Vega logo adorning the peghead. Guitar style tuning machines are used on the new Little Wonder in the tradition of the earlier Little Wonders. (Planet banjo tuning machines are available for a modest up charge) We do break with tradition however to put on a geared fifth string tuning machine for stability and ease of tuning. (Friction pegs may be traditional, but they aren't as enjoyable or practical to use.) The neck also has a two way adjustable truss-rod that allows you, the artist, to adjust the banjos playability or action to your own style and taste. Thus, the new Vega Little Wonder is the culmination of years of evolution and development, producing a powerful, folk and early style banjo that is as at home in today's music as it was in years past. Surpassing early Vegas in quality parts and craftsmanship, the new Little Wonder blends the best of today's technology with yesterday's classic tone

Vega Old Time Wonder

Vega Old Tyme Wonder
VEGA Old Tyme Wonder Deering Banjo Company introduces an exciting new addition to their Vega banjo line, the Olde Tyme Wonder! Responding to the ever increasing interest in American traditional “old timey” music heard in movies like “O’Brother” and highly motivated by frequent customer requests, Deering has created a rich brown-stained, rock maple banjo with a scooped fingerboard to provide more playing space for clawhammer styling, planetary pegs, traditional looking fiberskyn head, No-Knot tailpiece, and Vega-style armrest.Blending the already versatile, warm responsive sound heard on the Vega Little Wonder, with the new traditional features favored by clawhammer banjo players, the Olde Tyme Wonder has a three-ply maple rim, rock maple neck with ebony fingerboard inlaid with mother of pearl dots, a peghead proudly adorned with the Vega name in white, a subtlety elegant satin finish, and has been very modestly priced. Intended to approximate the tone of calfskin without the mounting and maintenance inconvenience, the fiberskyn head gives the Olde Tyme Wonder the warm, round, more plunky sound eagerly sought after by frailing style banjoists. The traditional No-Knot tailpiece which places no downward pressure on the banjo strings like more modern tailpieces and lends the banjo the mellower, open, full tone favored by traditional clawhammer players. The single coordinator rod in the pot and the neck with a two-way adjustable truss rod allows the player to adjust the banjo’s playability or action to suit his own style and taste. The Olde Tyme Wonder lends itself well to all styles of traditional music be it Civil War Era, ragtime, or classic turn of the century parlor melodies. Its appearance makes it a natural choice for the re-enactment enthusiasts!
