The Deering Crossfire has made many inroads in contemporary banjo—Bela Fleck is one of the main exponents taking this banjo into innovative realms unheard of to this day.
Many years ago the Deering's saw that Country Music, which originated with banjo as a primary instrument, no longer included one in their bands. Talking with banjoists in Nashville, the Deerings found out why. When electric guitars came on the scene, and bands were using amplification there was an inherent problem with acoustic banjos. Because of the highly sensitive head, the banjos would feed back when used in an amplified setting. So Country bands left banjos behind and many banjo players in Nashville had to find other work.
To meet these changing needs Greg Deering put his mind to solving the problem of why banjos would feedback, and patented the Deering electric banjo.
The banjo has now been reborn in Country, Jazz, & Pop, hitting the top of the Charts with the Dixie Chicks, Diamond Rio, Garth Brooks, Indigo Girls, Bela Fleck & the Flecktones and many others.
The Deering Crossfire electric banjo has set banjo players free to play in any amplified musical setting.
