Dear
John,
First
I must thank you for all your help and advice - it's only early days,
but how I love my Goodtime Special. It doesn't seem to matter how well
or how badly I play, it allways sounds lovelly!

Hi John!
The Calico arrived today. It's stunning, and I did manage to play it a bit despite my damaged left index finger! Thank you for the excellent service.

It's a big step investing in a professional quality banjo and I was haunted by doubts: -Would one instrument stand out to fulfil my expectations, or would I be tempted to pay over the top for a well known brand name to justify the long journey? Well for me, the tone of the DEERING Golden Era' did indeed stand out from that otherwise delectable selection. My journey to Hillbilly's was as enjoyable as it was rewarding and both subsequent purchases over the phone were received on the following morning. I only wish I could do my weekly shop there!

Hi John,
I thought I'd just send you a line to thank you for your quick and efficient resolvement of the problem I had with my new Deering banjo!.. It's hard to express in words,"without you actually seeing for yourself", the diffirence the new fret job made to the banjo, it plays and sounds like a dream, super fast and silky. Might I also add, the service and courteousness of you and your staff towards me was a very nice experience and an excellent endorsement for Deering having you as one of their premier dealers. I would have no hesitation in recomending Hillbillys to anyone who is looking a new Deering banjo..... Once again, Thankyou very much.
Best Regards Nigel Cardwell.

Dear Greg & Janet
I am absolutely thrilled with my Golden Era purchased last November and was confident that I was now fully equipped for my all my bluegrass needs, that is, until I bought the first John Hartford banjo instruction video!
The tone of his 24fret Wood tone-ringed Deering banjo, tuned to (Bb) is quite devastating. Its mid-range provides a wonderful contrast to the Golden Era and lets face it, not every one is blessed with that high lonesome sounding voice that epitomises mainstream bluegrass. Listen to John Hartford's 'Where does an old time riverman go' track and you will understand my enthusiasm.
This long neck banjo version plays no differently to the conventional (G) banjo, since the fret lengths and 5th string peg position are as standard, but the bridge is moved up slightly to somehow compensate for the extra two frets.
I absolutely love it, my audience love it and my wife has kindly offered to bury me with it, but as yet has not set a date!
Congratulations to Deering banjos for two complementary instruments made and finished to the very highest standards, but more importantly, their tone and resonance match their good looks.
Yours truly, |

John,
Just a quick thank you and to let you know I am still excited following the purchase of the GDL. After having had time to look at it properly I can say that the finish is superb and the tone heavenly. It's so much more rewarding to play than the banjo I had previously I really enjoy practicing every night - Mair has made me put it away over Christmas so I don't neglect the family! Have a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Regards, Mel

Hi John,
You may remember that I stopped by your store a couple of times last Fall....I ended up with a pair of your perfect touch picks. I vowed to try and dislodge one from my forefinger! I play guitar and only use a plastic thumb-pick and a steel (perfect touch) pick on my index finger. Until I tried your perfect touch pick I had given up the idea of playing with a metal pick on my index finger; having tried various picks that I just could not keep on my finger, short of superglueing them on! This is the first pick that I've ever been able to keep on my finger! My style is very aggressive and percussive, and includes raking and plucking strings upward with the index finger and also hammering down on the strings with the rest of my fingers. There's a lot of hand movement; which is not really condusive to keeping a steel pick solidly on the finger. I use medium strings on the guitar too. From the most gentle fingerpicking on ultra light strings to the most aggressive playing on heavier strings...there's never a time when you wonder if your picks will fly off! They stay put...exactly where you want them! Thanks John and have a wonderful New Year. By the way, John Hammong Jr. is the most agressive acoustic guitar player that I've seen who uses a finger pick...maybe he'd be interested in a sample?
Sincerely, Richard Morgan (8th Jan 2008)
P.S. I'll be recommending these pick to every guitar and banjo player that I meet |
